The Montgomerie Men’s Open took place over the weekend of the 2nd & 3rd October. Being the first event of the EGF order of merit season, an impressive field of players assembled all in the hope of getting their order of merit season started on a positive note.
Leading the way after round 1, was Thinus Rosslee and Arkesh Bhatia with rounds of 1 under par, with a number of players a few shots behind, including former champions Max Burrow, Bayhaan Lakdawala and The Montgomerie’s Club champion Charlie Simpson. Day 2 was set up for an exciting finish, and an exciting finish it was, Bayhaan Lakdawala took the early clubhouse lead with a second round of 72 finishing on 4 over par.
With Charlie and Thinus still out on the course on 2 over par and the dreaded 18th hole to play, they both managed to hold their nerve and finish on 2 over par to force a sudden death playoff. The playoff went down hole number 1, with Thinus missing the green on his approach shot and playing a wonderful chip nearly holing it to make par. The stage was then set for Charlie after a wonderful approach leaving himself a 15 foot putt to win which he made to claim The Montgomerie Men’s Open in dramatic fashion.
